Chris "Jesus" Ferguson Biography

Chris Ferguson is probably one of the most recognizable players in poker today. Sporting a cowboy hat and long hair, players gave him the nickname "Jesus". Ferguson's love of poker stems from his love of statistics, which was passed down to him from his father who was a master of game theory and statistics. From his father, at the age of ten he learned how to play poker and be successful at it. Ferguson attended UCLA and received a Bachelor's degree, then completed his Doctorate in Computer Science. However, Ferguson never lost his love of the game, and he has used his vast knowledge of game theory and statistics at the card table, which has proven to be very successful, to say the least.

Throughout the 1990s, Ferguson played on the Internet, and earned some fame from doing this. Those that he played against found him to be a lethal opponent. Once he realized how well he was doing online, Ferguson expanded his poker playings to local areas in Los Angeles where he once again made a name for himself. Such a name that he was able to go to the World Series of Poker game. In 2000, just one year after completing his Doctorate degree, Ferguson played in his first World Series Poke game held in Las Vegas. At the game he performed brilliantly, taking down what was considered one of the best poker players in the world, T.J Cloutier. From there on, his career was focused on poker.

In addition to the winning big at the World Series Poke game held in Las Vegas, Ferguson went onto the world championship game of seven card tournament. He has had his poker winnings documented in the James McManus classic "Positively Fifth Street", which speaks highly of his career in poker.

Just to demonstrate how great of a poker player Ferguson is, a person has to take all of his statistics in mind. He owns five World Series bracelets, made it to the final table at poker games 25 times, finished in the money 42 times and has made $4 million in playing World Series poker games. This does not include the money that he has made through online play and smaller poker games that he participates in. In 2006, he also proved just how lethal of a poker play that he is by finishing second place in the National Head's Up Poker Championship in which he was up against 64 players.

Today, Ferguson is more well-known for his online playing since he has been devoting his time to helping to further develop Full Tilt Poker, the most popular Internet set for people to play in. He is dedicated to making the site one that gives a true poker playing experience for all those that enter the website. However, that does not mean that Ferguson still does not play at the tables because he still does. And still, people find him to be one of the best poker players of all time, while he is also still expanding his knowledge as most people still see him at the UCLA campus.
