Howard Lederer Biography

Howard Lederer is a professional poker player also known as the professor due to his great poker skills. He grew up in concord, New Hampshire. He has two sisters Anny and Katy. The family that he grew up in was full of academics and had a liking for games of chance so by a tender age his parents had already introduced him to all kinds of games. His parents encouraged playing cards as a creative way for the whole family to bond and get some great quality time together. His competitiveness was horned and encouraged by his father, who never went easy on him during the very competitive games that the family played. His father can be said to be his very first opponent to play poker with, which would ultimately become his passion in life.

During his teens Howard Lederer surprisingly wasn't much into playing poker since his main interest then laid in playing chess and after finishing high school Howard wanted to halt academics to pursue his passion for chess. During this time he went to New York. While in New York he was introduced to gambling through chess, poker and backgammon.

Sometime later, after arriving in New York Howard Lederer came across a backroom game of cards at a club that he frequented and this is when he took to full-time poker playing thus giving chess a rest. Like big names in the poker world, Howard Lederer's first years playing poker were very challenging since he was a constant loser and got to an extent that he started making his nightly buy in doing odd jobs for players that gamed in the club.

The time that can be said to have determined the course of his porker playing career can be said to be the time the time he was in the renowned Mayfair club. From here he spent quality time learning the game in great detail and it's around this time that the No-Limit Hold'em was introduced in New York. He was among other famous poker plays at the Mayfair who were very intrigued by this variation of porker.

When in New York he began coaching Annie his younger sister about poker's finer points and it is said that she played poker throughout the day and go through loop holes in her strategy with Howard. All this coaching from the professor would not be in vain as Annie developed her porker to the extent of becoming a formidable player.

Howard Lederer moved to Las Vegas in 1993 from where he initiated his career seriously after gaining experience in poker strategy through most of 1980s in New York. During his time in Vegas is when he established himself as a major poker player through playing No- Limit- Holdem competitions and cash tables. From here henceforth he went on to a winning streak and later earned the name "professor" due to his collected and calm composure.
