Marcel Luske Biography

Marcel Luske is one of the most notable players in poker today. The man has a nickname, "The Flying Dutchman". Luske received this nickname because at the beginning of his poker career, he would frequently fly to games all over in order to play and develop his skills since the games that he was playing the back rooms of night clubs were no longer giving him the wins and the challenge that he was looking for and needed in order to become a successful poker player.

The thing that makes people notice Luske is that he always is at the poker table in a suit. Plus, he always has sunglasses that are on his head upside down and occasionally sings while he is at the table. He is definitely a fun player to be in any game with. And he is known to be the funny man at the table, however, along with the funny quirk about him, most people point out that he is one of the classiest players that they ever had the chance to play with. He was born in 1953 in Amsterdam and unlike many other dominant players on the circuit, Luske did not start playing poker a young age. Actually, for many years, Luske was in the business world. He started out working in many clubs and bars, finally opening his own pub. However, in 2003 he completely got out of the business world so that he could devote his time to his poker playing. And this proved to be a great career decision for Luske. He also had a dream of releasing a singing record since he always wanted to be a singer, and this goal was reached in 2006 when he released his poker songs record.

Besides playing the game, Luske is also involved with the World Poker Federation Advisory Board that sets out the rules of which players should play the game by, as well as values and morals that all players should have. Luske was actually the founder of the Federation which could be why he has the respect of so many players that are on the circuit and is known to be a fair player at the card table.

He has placed and participated in several tournaments. In 2007, he placed second place in a $5,000 Seven card stud tournament in which he won $120,800. He has never won a major tournament yet, however, most professionals in the field agree that he will before his career in poker playing is over. In 2009, it was estimated that he had a career winnings of around $3.7 million. Which is definitely not bad for someone who started off with poker just being something to pass his time.

Luske is always known for his mentoring that he has given some up and coming players. Those that he has mentored often do even better in the tournaments than Luke himself does. Luske has also participated in several shows that teach Poker to those that are new to the game. Showing that Luske is not only a player, but an excellent teacher.
